How much heating does an office building need early in the morning? When does the cooling system need to come on? And how can a comfortable indoor climate be achieved using as little energy as possible? Digital solutions can now provide proactive answers to such questions. However, it is crucial that intelligent calculations are translated into concrete guidelines for more efficient building operation. This is precisely where the collaboration between SAUTER Germany and meteoviva comes in. With their ‘meteoviva ready’ approach, the strategic partners have laid the groundwork for seamlessly integrating meteoviva’s digital solutions with SAUTER building automation.
mv climate, for example, demonstrates how this works. It is based on a digital twin of the building, which incorporates building physics, building services, usage and internal loads, as well as outside temperature, sunshine, wind and weather forecasts. AI-based algorithms and thermodynamic simulations use this data to determine future requirements for heating, cooling and air supply.
Artificial Intelligence Meets Building Automation
SAUTER and meteoviva have been working together strategically for five years. During this time, the integration of the technologies has been tested and continuously refined in various projects. Alongside technical performance, a very practical question has increasingly come to the fore: How can the effort involved in planning, implementation and practical application be further reduced?
The ‘meteoviva ready’ approach arose from practical experience, specifically during a joint project between meteoviva and SAUTER: iCampus in Munich’s Werksviertel district. To achieve the ambitious climate protection targets, the developers are relying on a smart energy concept for the modern office complex. Here, SAUTER’s building automation is combined with meteoviva’s predictive building control system to manage energy consumption according to demand and drastically reduce both costs and CO₂ emissions. The impetus came from a specific customer request: the integration of the technologies needed to be made even simpler. That is precisely what has been achieved.
Making direct use of existing data points
The principle behind this is as simple as it is effective: because the necessary measurement and control data points are already present in the building automation system, no additional control data points need to be created for the digital solutions. The calculated values can be written directly into existing SAUTER control objects.
This reduces the project planning workload and thus saves time and money. At the same time, it remains clear to the operator when optimisation via meteoviva is active. In the SAUTER Vision Centre (SVC), the central management and visualisation platform for building automation, this is displayed directly alongside the relevant setpoints. The meteoviva Cockpit, on the other hand, provides a clear overview of savings and building status.
Operational reliability is also taken into account. In the event of a data connection failure, a heartbeat or watchdog ensures that the meteoviva settings are reset. Local SAUTER automation then takes over again.
Five years of collaboration give rise to a new standard
This is how the strengths of the two partners complement each other: meteoviva extends traditional building automation by looking ahead. SAUTER ensures that the specifications derived from this are reliably incorporated into building operations. A practical standard has thus emerged from a partnership that has grown over five years and the experience gained from many joint projects. For owners and operators, this means, above all: less effort in implementation, lower costs and a straightforward path to more energy-efficient building operations.

Saving energy is just the start 5 ways your building can save you money
Reducing energy consumption is the most obvious way to improve building efficiency, but it is by no means the only one. We highlight five areas where savings can be made and explain which types of buildings stand to benefit the most.
