MeteoViva opens up a new asset class with Berlin shopping centre "Das Schloss"

For the first time, MeteoViva's smart data technology also ensures reduced energy consumption and CO2 emissions in the retail segment and thus also sets important and urgently needed sustainable impulses in shopping centres.

Jülich, 29. March 2023 — MeteoViva technology is now optimising the operation of more than 200 office and industrial buildings worldwide, reducing energy costs and CO2 emissions. This makes the technology an important measure in achieving the sustainability strategy of the real estate funds. MeteoViva's use in the nearly 42,000 square metre "Das Schloss" shopping centre in Berlin (Germany) demonstrates that the technology can also transform buildings in the retail asset class into sustainable smart buildings. In the first 12 months, energy costs were reduced by 20 per cent and CO2 emissions by 17 per cent.

This balance is all the more remarkable when you consider that in this asset class there are very different ventilation and indoor climate requirements from the various tenants, all of which are considered individually when calculating the optimum control data, says MeteoViva Managing Director Uwe Großmann. The shopping centre, which was completed in 2006, has a total of 95 different tenants. Many shop and restaurant operators were on board from the start and actively supported the measures to reduce energy costs.

The realisation of "Das Schloss" was part of a strategic cooperation with Deka Immobilien, whose portfolio includes the shopping centre. For one of the largest globally active real estate investment companies in Europe, MeteoViva is a building block in the implementation of the company's own sustainability strategy.

Technology is an important element in driving the real estate industry's transformation towards greater sustainability and achieving ESG goals, confirms Großmann. „For many of our clients, our intelligent smart data technology offers the opportunity to increase property value through lower energy consumption, reduced CO2 emissions and good indoor climate.“
